New Bed 4 Anissa – Donating even $1 will help

I just donated $50 to the New Bed 4 Anissa fun via MommyBrainReports.com and ChipIn.com.   I love it when bloggers and people in general gather together to help a friend, or even someone they don’t know, out.  It doesn’t happen nearly enough and I think a lot of the reason why is that whether by choice or circumstance, we aren’t exposed to the problems enough.  Monica from MommyBrainReports.com stepped up and put Anissa’s ‘problem’ in front of us via her blog and Twitter, giving us all the opportunity to chip in and help.

Even though I’ve never met Anissa and have only actually communicated with her once or twice via Twitter I believe, I have followed her story for over a year and although she makes it nearly impossible to feel sorry for her, I empathize and want to help if only with a few dollars.. $50 in this case.    Amazingly enough, I live in Atlanta and so does Anissa.. but we’ve never met.

I can’t imagine being in Anissa’s position and not having a good bed to rest and sleep in. Where should I send the logos for the t-shirts?  That’s such a great idea.. I hope a lot of people chip in!

You can donate $1, $5, $10, $25, or $50.. or more here.

Wendy’s new Pick 2 for $4.99 menu and a gift card giveaway!

I was invited, along with some great local bloggers here in Atlanta, to attend a ‘Bloggers and Friends Meet & Greet’ at Wendy’s to try out their new Pick 2 for $4.99 menu.  Talk about a good time!  Besides getting to see Pierra from JollyMom.com and Kia Morgan Smith (Madelyn’s favorite children’s book author), the kids and I enjoyed some great food.

Wendy's Pick 2 for $4.99 Bloggers Meet and Greet

To me Wendy’s new Pick 2 for $4.00 menu is that it is all about portion sizes and healthier selections.  The base menu item is a salad of which there are 4 to choose from including a Spicy Chicken Caesar Salad.. yum.  Then you can add on a drink, a baked potato, a hamburger, or Chicken Go Wrap to complete your meal.  The Pick 2 menu offers 28 total combinations of menu items, and 18 of those combinations are 600 calories or less! All of the combinations combine fruits, vegetables, nuts, dairy and proteins. Take a look at the  Pick 2 for $4.99 menu on the Wendy’s website here.

I’m attending Variety’s Power of Women event in Beverly Hills!

I am so excited!

Myself and 10 other great women (list coming soon) were selected by Honda to attend Variety’sPower of Women event September 30th.
And to top it off, I’m ‘competing’ (I don’t really like that word) with the 10 other winners to cover the event from the RED CARPET!   The 10 other women who are in the running to be on the red carpet are fantastic so good luck to them and I’ll see you there!
To vote for my essay, the 7th one, (or any of the 10 wonderful essays), visit Honda Odyssey’s Power of Women Facebook page here and click on the ‘VOTE’ link to the right of the essay you want to vote for.  If my essay gets the most votes, I win and cover the event from the red carpet at the Power of Women event – which quite honestly.. I’m not sure that I want to do so vote for my essay if you LOVE it but otherwise, feel free to vote for another essay.

Meanwhile, I’m going to the not-so-hot (as Atlanta) west coast to attend Honda’s Ride N Drive Event later this week and can’t wait to tell you all about it, afterwards.

You can learn more about Variety’s Power Of Women event here.

Yes, this is my final Rice Krispies Treats recipe decision and it’s Very Berry!

Updated June 25th – Congratulations to the winner of our Rice Krispies Treats Recipe Cookbook giveway, Susan R.!

I’ve decided to enter my star shaped Rice Krispies Treats with raspberry sorbet, Cool Whip, and fresh berries recipe in the Rice Krispies Treats recipe challenge I’m participating in as a Rice Krispies ambassador along with 9 other great bloggers.

Being a part of the July 4th Rice Krispies Treats Recipe Challenge has been a blast for me despite the fact that I’ve been traveling and haven’t been able to make as many recipes as I would have liked.  I was able to spend several hours creating a few different recipes and have finally settled on my favorite.. Very Berry Rice Krispies Treats. The other two recipes I made but am not submitting for the contest are (1) Rice Krispies Treats cup filled with sorbet and fresh fruit, with a chocolate rim, and (2) Rice Krispies Treats chocolate covered bowl filled with ice cream and fresh fruit.

My kids, 10 and 4, had so much fun helping me with the Rice Krispies Treats Recipe Challenge.  Madelyn stirred the melting marshmallows and helped put the Rice Krispies in the mix while Sebastian filmed what turned out to be a very shaky video of me going through the entire process of making these delicious Rice Krispies Treats.  I am so proud of Sebastian for trying!  He did a great job.

Star shaped Rice Krispies Treats with raspberry sorbet, Cool Whip, and fresh berries

Instructions

  • Make Rice Krispies Treats as usual
    • Melt 3 tablespoons butter in large pan on low heat
    • Mix marshmallows in and stir constantly until completely melted
    • Remove from heat
    • Stir in 6 cups Rice Krispies
    • SPECIAL – Separate Rice Krispies Treats mix into two 13×9 inch pans to make two thin layers
  • Refrigerate for 30 minutes to an hour – not necessary, but keeps the sorbet you are going to put on the soon to be cut out stars, from melting quickly
  • Once cool, cut Rice Krispies Treats into star shapes with a cookie cutter and put the individual stars on wax paper
  • Coat 1/2 of the cool Rice Krispies Treats stars with raspberry sorbet (substitute with your favorite flavor, ice cream, or frozen yogurt)
  • Place a star on top of the sorbet covered Rice Krispies Treats stars
  • Top with Cool Whip, strawberries, and blueberries
  • Garnish the plate with fresh fruit and enjoy immediately!  😉
