Tiny Toms for Kids Provide Shoes to Children in Need

TOMS Shoes is a shoemaker that gives a new pair of shoes to a child in need for each pair of shoes sold. New to TOMS Shoes is the children’s Tiny TOMS line. It is a wonderful gift to provide a child in a third world country with a pair of shoes. Many children in developing countries are at risk of infection when they walk on contaminated soil to school. Providing shoes helps to lead children healthy active lives without risk of injuring their feet.

Recently TOMS Shoes launched a collection of kids shoes that come in the cool graphic prints in slip-on and mary jane styles. The Silver Glitter Mary Jane Tiny TOMS (upper left, $34 at Tomsshoes.com) is sure to appeal to petite princesses and also comes in gold. The Peace Sign Slip-on (upper right, $60 at Neiman Marcus), Olive/Grey Camo Tiny TOMS (lower left,$34 at Tomsshoes.com) and Remarque Tiny TOMS ($34.00 at Tomsshoes.com) will fit appeal to the coolest kids on the playground.

Personalized Plates for Kids

I’ve been searcing for a personalized gift for the children on my holiday gift list. I came across some personalized melamine plates and thought they would be perfect. What could make mealtime more fun than your very own plate? It is also a good way to teach preschoolers how to spell their name. The will see it emblazoned across their plate at every meal. That is assuming they eat their food and uncover the design underneath! These plates are the modern day version of the circular piece of paper I drew on as a kid and my mom sent it away to be laminated and returned to us. It was special to eat on my own personalized plate and I loved to eat my meals on it. I’ve found several personalized plates, a bit more sophisticated than the designs back in the day. You may even find some that coordinate with your home’s decor. The letter to Santa plate can be customized with a custom letter from your kids. Sweet! There are several sites which offer these plates and one place I always turn to again and again for personalized childrens items is Etsy

Get Frightfully Green This Halloween

eco-halloween

Yes, Halloween is only weeks away. Perhaps you are all set with decor, candy and costumes. But if you are like me, there are still costumes to buy, pumpkins to carve and decorations to hang. My daughter is so excited that she wants to buy a pumpkin every she sees one on display. This year we will make our official trip to the organic pumpkin patch the weekend before Halloween. Carving will happen two days before the big night. Last year my daughter was old enough to enjoy the season and we carved our pumpkins way too early and they imploded by the time October 31st rolled around. This year I’m considering purchasing as many eco-friendly Halloween decorations as possible. And recycling things we have around the house for seasonal decor. I have a couple ornate Victorian looking candelabras which I’ll spray paint black paint to make a centerpiece in the dining room. I’ll be cutting out black construction paper silhouettes of black cats and spiderwebs from construction paper and then toss it in the recycling bin afterward. I’ve also found a few eco-friendly Halloween decor and party items that help to reduce waste and support fair trade labor.

Oct. 8 Must-Have: Oilily Tights for Little Girls

oilily-girls-tights

There is a cool crisp breeze in the air, apple festival time has arrived and Halloween decorations fill the stores. Gone are cotton sundresses, it is time for dressing up my toddler in tights and warmer dresses and skirts. She has several pair of tights, but her favorites are the styles from Oilily. Oilily tights are thick, cozy and hold in the washer and dryer. They also come in charming colorful designs that look adorable on little girls’ legs. They look very pretty with fall dresses and corduroy skirts.

Shearling boots would be the perfect complement to these fun tights or how about a pair of sweet mary janes?
