What do you use every day that could have millions of germs on it?

Bounty DuraTowel review

I have two kids who like most kids make a huge mess in less than 5 minutes so you will never find me far from a cleaning product.  I’m on constant alert, just waiting for the next mess to happen when I’ll need a dishcloth or paper towel, carpet cleaner, or stain remover, for a mess that someone has made.

I used dish cloths to clean up messes in our kitchen for years.  I used reusable dish cloths because I didn’t like the idea of throwing away paper towel after paper towel.

My mom even made me about a dozen beautiful knit dish cloths and I used them to clean anything and everything in the kitchen.   The knit dish cloths are soft and pretty.  However, the knit didn’t help combat the dishcloth smell I experienced with ‘regular’ dish cloths.

To top it off, it seems that everyone in my family feels the need to use a new dishcloth every time we clean a surface.

Why do I use a new dishcloth almost every time I need one?

  1. After just one day there can be millions of germs on a dishcloth.  Read Prevention Magazine’s 10 Worst Germ Hot Spots for more on this.
  2. Used dish cloths smell and I don’t purposely touch smelly things.
  3. I have no idea what my husband or son used a dishcloth on, so why would I want to use it to clean my kitchen counters?   They have been known to clean spills off the floor with a dishcloth and put it back on the sink to reuse later.  Yuck!

Isn’t the idea of re-depositing something that you wiped off one surface, onto another surface gross?  I think so.  So when there was a dishcloth on the sink that I didn’t use in the past day, I put it in the dirty laundry and replaced it with a new clean dishcloth.  Also, it’s a well-known fact that germs thrive on moistness so what do you think happens to a wet dishcloth as it’s hanging on the side of the sink?  The germs on it multiply!  Most people hang a used dishcloth on the edge of their kitchen sink which does not allow the dishcloth to completely dry.   What do you use a dishcloth or paper towel for in the first place?  To clean surfaces and get rid of germs!

DuraTowel paper towel by Bounty

I’m not suggesting that you use dozens of paper towels a day.  I use paper towels sparingly.  This week I tried Bounty’s new DuraTowel paper towel and like other Bounty paper towels I’ve used, 1 wet DuraTowel cleaned all of my kitchen counters.  I used another to clean door knobs and handles.
DuraTowel paper towels are very absorbent and are soft enough to feel like a dishcloth.
Designed with more fibers that hold together even when wet, Bounty DuraTowel feels and cleans like a cloth to tackle the toughest projects.  In a secure P&G lab demonstration, a black  light revealed that even after rinsing a used dish  cloth can still drag around old clean-ups. A fresh  DuraTowel leaves surfaces three times cleaner than  a used dishcloth.*

My Dishcloth Germ & Bacteria Test Results

The P&G Research & Development team conducted ATP (see below for explanation) testing on a dishcloth that I used for several days and the results were 18,262!  As you can see, after only three day’s use, my dishcloth harbored millions of germs and bacteria.

The ATP test is a process of rapidly measuring actively growing microorganisms through detection of adenosine triphosphate, or ATP.  ATP is a molecule found in and around living cells, and as such it gives a direct measure of biological concentration and health. ATP is quantified by measuring the light produced through its reaction with the naturally occurring firefly enzyme luciferase using a luminometer. The amount of light produced is directly proportional to the amount of living organisms present in the sample.

DuraTowel has a suggested retail price of $3.19.

The Learning Tower, Art Easel, and Toy Tower Review

Is your child so clingy that she pulls up a chair up to stand next to you while you’re cooking or fixing your hair?

Then you will love The Learning Tower.

The Learning Tower is a safe, sturdy, and fun platform inside a tower that your child can stand on safely.  When standing on the platform my daughter can help me cook, wash fruits and veggies, and if you have older kids, I’ve learned it’s a great place for a child to stand while playing hair stylist.  My daughter loves brushing my hair and playing hair stylist and she’s fallen off of the chair more than a handful of times.  We keep The Learning Tower in our kitchen now and the kids can move it from one area to another pretty easily.

The Learning Tower and Art Easel review

Before your child gets in The Learning Tower, adjust the platform to one of the four positions that your think is best for your child.  Pull The Learning Tower up to the location where you want it and your child can climb in using the foot holes on either side or crawl in through the open space on the sides. No matter which of the four heights the platform is on, your child is unlikely to fall out because there is at least a four-inch ledge around the entire platform.

The Art Easel

Little Partners also sells an Art Easel that hooks over the top of The Learning Tower.  The Art Easel is great for playing school or listing chores or recipe ingredients.  A white board on one side and a chalkboard on the other, there is plenty of room for a child to create a fantastic work of art or just doodle.

Here’s a helpful dry erase marker tip: If your child accidentally uses a regular marker on the dry erase board, just go over it again with a dry erase marker and wipe it clean.  It may not come 100% clean but it should help considerably.

The Art Easel is available in nine colors and is $59.99.

The Toy Tower

Little girls love playing with dolls but that toy high chair you have might not be the easiest thing to carry to Grandma’s house.  That’s where the Toy Tower comes in handy.  It’s small and light weight and just the right size for any doll.  The platform is adjustable just like on The Learning Tower so your child’s doll can sit as high or low as needed.  Last night we took Mickey Mouse and The Toy Tower with us to my mom’s house for dinner and he enjoyed dinner with us.  On a normal day any number of baby dolls and Lalaloopsy dolls will sit in the Toy Tower wherever my daughter is.

The Toy Tower is $49.99 and is available in three colors.

Assembling the Art Easel

Assembling The Learning Tower and Art Easel

Assembling The Learning Tower takes about 30 minutes while the Art Easel takes just about 15 minutes to assemble.
If you have a little helper like my husband did then assembly time might be less.. or more.

Both require minimal tools for assembly.

Pop Art 5-in-1 Toy Story Tasty Baker review

We LOVE pancakes.. OK, I LOVE pancakes.
Tim and Sebastian like chocolate chip pancakes and Madelyn doesn’t like pancakes, but loves eggs.
So, you can imagine that weekend mornings are fun around here.  I usually have the pancake griddle and a skillet out for the eggs, but this week I made regular pancakes, chocolate chip pancakes, AND eggs in our new Pop Art Toy Story 5-in-1 Tasty Baker.

How cute are these little Toy Story pancakes?

We recently went on a trip to a lodge in Kentucky for a few days and nights and I brought the Pop Art Toy Story 5-in-1 Tasty Baker with us.   With 3 kids under 4 years old and my  10 year old, the Tasty Baker was a huge hit!   I thought I would use it once or twice during our vacation but I used it every day.

Here’s what I’ve made with the Pop Art Toy Story 5-in-1 Tasty Baker:

  • regular pancakes
  • chocolate chip pancakes – Sebastian’s favorite
  • blueberry pancakes – my favorite
  • eggs – Madelyn’s favorite

My cousin’s kids might have loved the Toy Story shapes as much as or more than the actual pancakes.   I use soy milk in my pancake recipe and some people are turned off by that.. I have to remind myself that most kids don’t know the difference though and assume that they loved them.  They sure gobbled them up!

The Tasty Baker can be wiped clean and includes a cleaning tool/brush to use on areas where the batter might stick.  It also comes with a batter scoop and an instruction manual.  It would be nice if the Tasty Baker came with removable nonstick plates so they could be handled and washed easier.

Pop Art Toy Story Tasty Baker

The 5-in-1 Tasty Baker is available in a Disney Princess version as well as a Mickey Mouse version.. and of course a standard version.

Toy Story 5-in-1 Tasty Baker bakes cakes, muffins, quickbreads, and more…it can even cook eggs (Madelyn loves ‘Alien eggs’) into 5 delicious, kid-friendly shapes: Buzz, Woody, Rex, Alien and Lotso.

The new dual nozzle, sturdier Swiffer Wet Jet

Small Wet Jet KitOMG!  If you get as excited about cleaning and gadgets as I do you will LOVE the new Swiffer WetJet. No, the one you buy at the store doesn’t come package like this one, sorry!
Swiffer and MyBlogSpark made it nearly impossible for my heart not to flutter when I received this incredible Swiffer WetJet Mission Impossible kit.

I am a huge fan of the Swiffer WetJet.  I haven’t used a traditional mop in years, over 8 to be exact.  I was thrilled to learn about the new Swiffer WetJet which has been redesigned with dual nozzles, a bigger scrubbing strip, and sturdier construction to help ensure my cleaning efforts are worth it.

Here are a few reasons you will love the new Swiffer WetJet:

  • The larger scrubbing strip on the new Swiffer WetJet and the cleaning solution break up and dissolves tough messes.. no hands and knees required!
  • Unlike the mop and bucket you’ve used in the past, it’s light and maneuverable, so you can easily navigate under tables and chairs.
  • The Swiffer WetJet takes up minimal storage space making it easy to store in small closet areas.
  • My 10 year old son loves to use the WetJet.  He uses too much solution most of the time (he gets trigger happy!), but that’s better than not helping at all, right?

Get your hands on a Swiffer WetJet at your local super market.  You can learn more about the new Swiffer WetJet on the Swiffer web site here.
