I’ve known the brand JumpStart since my 10 year old was about 4.   At about 4 years old I thought Sebastian was ready to play computer games so I went out to buy some and didn’t have much luck finding a game that he could navigate and play without having to use a mouse.. until I found JumpStart at Target.  I loved that Sebastian didn’t have to use the mouse to play JumpStart games.   I’ve been a fan of JumpStart games ever since.

My 4 year old daughter recently started playing in the JumpStart.com 3d virtual world and has a blast.  She loves the character we created for her and is very proud of herself for using the keyboard to move through JumpStart’s virtual world.  Sebastian’s playing in the JumpStart online virtual world, next to me while I’m writing this and is saying things including “that was awesome”, “this is so cool”, and “mom you’ve got to look at this”.  Yes, those three things over and over.  Oh, and he just found another way to fly in the virtual world.  It doesn’t get more exciting than that!

He’s about to check out the Dragon Sanctuary, a place where kids can hatch, raise, train, then release their dragons.  Update: It’s the 2nd day Sebastian’s been playing JumpStart.com online virtual world games and he’s very excited that his dragon hatched.

JumpStart.com has online games for preschoolers to upper elementary grade kids.  JumpStart’s StoryLand is aimed at 3-5 year olds and for children in kindergarten to 2^nd grade, there is AdventureLand and MarineLand, an underwater adventure.   FutureLand is for kids from 3rd to 5th grade.  Both of my kids have fun on JumpStart.com and best of all, I can keep up with what they are doing and how they are progressing.  I don’t have to keep up with much for my 4 year old but Sebastian, 10, will play games for hours if I let him and it’s nice to see how and what he’s doing via a progress report area on JumpStart.

Sebastian loves JumpStart’s Math Blaster CD game which is geared for kids ages 6 to 12.  Math Blaster: Master the Basics is a fast-action, futuristic adventure that adds up to total math success. From addition and subtraction to multiplication and division, children will build confidence, speed and accuracy in basic math skills that will stay with them long after their mission is complete.  Math Blaster: Master the Basics combines exciting, fast-action game play and state-standard math content, making it a fun game for kids but educational at the same time.  Who knew learning math could be fun? Sebastian learned a lot from Math Blaster last school year.  He was in need of some help with math during 4th grade and Math Blaster’s fun and entertaining games made learning math fun for him.. when I couldn’t.  I was having a hard time trying to figure out how to get him to learn more complicated math facts that he needed to learn and wasn’t picking up on but Math Blaster did the job.

You are a smart mom.. I just know it! Something that most smart moms do is save money and spend wisely.  One way to save money is to keep your ride alive for 150,000.. even 250,000 miles.  The best way to do that is to keep your car maintained.  Ok, so I haven’t kept a car older 60,000 miles in the 20 years I’ve been a car owner but believe you me.. I’ve learned my lesson and I’d love to try!

A 2010 Jiffy Lube International survey reveals drivers hope to keep vehicles longer and want help from maintenance providers to reach mileage goals.  My local Jiffy Lube guys (and gals!) know that I want them to check EVERYTHING when I come in.  No kidding.  I am a believer in maximizing my time and when I’m waiting in the car shop’s waiting room I want to know that everything possible is getting checked on my car to ensure that it is safe and running efficiently and smoothly.  I feel confident that when I leave Jiffy Lube, my car is in tip top condition and I appreciate the service managers communicate very well with me when/if there is an issue.

Here are some interesting facts:

• While 99% of drivers agree getting their oil changed regularly will help prolong its life, most are looking for additional services during their oil change visits to help keep their ride alive
• More than half of U.S. drivers hope to hit more than 150,000 miles on their vehicle before replacing it.
• Nine in 10 people agree having other key vehicle parts and fluids checked during their regular oil change is the most convenient way for them to maintain their vehicle’s value and longevity
• More than half of U.S. drivers (59%) agree it is important to have their oil change finished in 30 minutes or less

Here are a few things you can do to help keep your ride alive:

PicPocket Books for the iphone

It’s almost a nightly ritual that after reading books, Madelyn gets my iPhone and read/watch two of Madelyn’s favorite PicPocket books; Eric And The Enchanted Leaf: The First Adventure by Deborah K. Frontiera and BlueBeary by Kathleen McMillan.

PicPocket Books show both the words and the images from the book on your phone and readers can choose to read a PicPocket book to Madelyn or to have the narrator read it.   And coming soon, friends and family can read and record the story in their own voices!  Madelyn can touch the screen to turn the page or I can set the app to turn the pages automatically which I do when I’m hoping Madelyn will sit and watch the book by herself for a few minutes.  The story can be paused anytime as well.

Madelyn is showing interest in learning to read and PicPocket books are great for that because the words are highlighted as they are read.  The graphics are incredibly sharp and high quality, it’s just like reading a book but with a shiny screen.

PicPocket Books specializes in adapting and creating children’s books for the iPhone and iPod and that is noticeable in the quality of their apps.  They don’t develop other types of apps which I think would diminish the quality of their book apps.  Great job PicPocket Books!
