Six Flags Over Georgia Hurricane Harbor news

Planning a visit to Georgia next summer?  Be sure to include a visit to Six Flags Over Georgia in your plans!  Six Flags Over Georgia will surprise you from entry to exit.  The healthy food options, immaculately clean park, safety features, and shaded play areas make the popular theme park a must visit for Georgia residents and tourists alike.  Opening Memorial Day of 2014, Hurricane Harbor will provide you and your kids with one more way to have an amazing day and build great memories.  Don’t forget to bring a waterproof camera! 🙂

Six Flags Over Georgia announced the addition of Hurricane Harbor, opening in 2014, today.  Hurricane Harbor, an all-new water park element of Six Flags Over Georgia will open Memorial Day 2014.  Not only can parents take their kids to get the thrill of a lifetime on Six Flags’ traditional roller coasters and rides, starting Memorial Day of 2014 parents and kids can relax in the 800,000 gallon wave pool or enjoy a (gigantic) splash on Bahamas Blaster sporting a four story drop in the 7-acre Caribbean landscaped Hurricane Harbor.  Younger kids will enjoy the wave pool and interactive children’s water play area.

Park president, Dale Kaetzel, informed us that the Caribbean Island themed water park will include cabanas, shaded areas, dining locations, and shopping.  The addition of Hurricane Harbor to the South East’s premier theme park, will make Six Flags Over Georgia a must-visit park for residents and tourists alike.  Six Flags Over Georgia is located at 275 Riverside Parkway SW in Austell off of Interstate 20 west of Atlanta, just a quick drive from Atlanta and surrounding areas.

Hurricane Harbor, set to open in late May 2014, will include an 800,000 gallon wave pool, a multi-slide tower, and a “world’s first” single slide tower combining two extreme slide thrills, plus an interactive children’s water play area.

Admission to Hurricane Harbor will be included in any one day admission ticket or a Six Flags Over Georgia season pass. Six Flags White Water in Marietta, Ga. and Six Flags Over Georgia will continue to offer combination passes for guests to enjoy both destinations at one low price.

What Will Be Inside Hurricane Harbor:

Gigantic Wave Pool – Hurricane Bay
With over eight hundred thousand gallons of water this, thirty eight thousand square foot high tech ocean experience will simulate the deep blue Caribbean surf. Equipped with a state of the art wave system that is capable of producing waves up to four feet high this pool will create rolling waves that guests can enjoy all day.

Dual Slide Complex – Calypso Cobra
For those who feel the need for speed and cool thrills, this world’s-first slide will test riders bravery as they take on something the world has never seen. Combining two great slide experiences into one extreme thrill; four riders will take on the Cobra as they barrel down an enclosed 5-story drop before they are shot into a 40 -foot wide bowl and take on complete watery mayhem. Just as they think it is over riders take on the Calypso Cobra’s finale which shoots them perpendicular to the ground and suspends them in a moment of zero-gravity as they are swept across the Cobras tail. Guests will find themselves screaming around every slippery turn.

Multi-Slide Complex – Bahamas Blaster and Runaway Pipeline
Riding with their family and friends in an inner tube, guests will careen down a dark watery decent through the enclosed tunnels and soar down 180 and 360 degree curves. The serpentine tunnels will propel riders through rushing water and then drops them into the pool below. Bold adventurers can take on the Bahamas Bowl and careen down a four story drop into a gigantic bowl that will hurl them around and around in gushing water before finally dropping them out through a corkscrew chute into a splash pool below.

Children’s Activity Area – Paradise Island
Kids will be in command of this, 200 square foot interactive water playground that includes three giant water-dumping towers and hundreds of interactive water elements. Splash into this water play structure and get soaked on six slides with dozens of water gadgets, climbing nets, water blasters and tipping buckets.

What’s In My Makeup Drawer – Buxom, Givenchy, Covergirl, & More

Like most women, I have a drawer (or two) full of makeup.  I recently threw away any makeup products that I haven’t used in over 6 months and this is what was left.. plus a few items I come across recently.  🙂

My morning makeup routine usually starts with Covergirl foundation.  I used to wear the Laura Mercier foundation (#6 below) every day but I really like the feel of the Covergirl foundation and realized that each foundation is great for its own purpose which is for special occasions now. I love the way the Laura Mercier Oil-Free Foundation feels on my skin but it doesn’t stay on as long as the Covergirl foundation.

Here are a reviews of some of my favorite cosmetics items and things in my makeup drawer.  Please share your can’t-live-without makeup products with us in the comments below.

What's in my makeup drawer

1. Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation – $10 at Amazon.com or local store
This is my new-ish go-to foundation for days when I am going to be outdoors or in situations when I might break a little bit of a sweat.  It stays on great, as the name implies.  Despite that this foundation has a built-in primer, I still use my Sephora primer.  I don’t know if I’ll ever not use primer now that I’ve started.

2. Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer – $28 for .02 oz or $42 for .5 oz
I have massive under-eye circles, so much so that my daughter asked me recently why the skin under my eyes was purple.  This highly pigmented, super-emollient, water-resistant formula blends seamlessly into my skin, looks and feels natural, and stays on all day.

3. Buxom Full-On Lip Cream – $19 at Sephora
I have very sensitive lips.  They look outlined in lip liner the second I put traditional lipstick on.  Buxom is one brand of lip cream/ lipstick that doesn’t freak my lips out.   I’m not crazy about their menthol-y tingle but since the lip cream goes on so smooth and doesn’t make my lips go into instant lip liner mode, I can easily say that Buxom is my new (for the past two years) favorite lip color brand.

4. GIVENCHY Hydra Sparkling Magic Lip & Cheek Balm – $31 at Sephora
I love this lip & cheek balm.  The first time I put it on I thought that it looked sheer and I was a little disappointed.  It felt great on my lips and like Buxom lip cream I mentioned earlier, it did not make the edges of my lips turn bright red.   When I looked in the mirror again a few minutes later I was surprised to see that my lips were covered in a beautiful shade of pink.  My sister got the same lip balm and because GIVENCHY Hydra Sparkling Magic Lip & Cheek Balm contains pigments that react with the skin’s humidity to create a personalized hint of color to the lips, it looks different on her than it does me.  How cool is that?

5. Neutrogena Healthy Lengths Mascara – $10 at Amazon.com
If I have to choose just a few cosmetics to wear in a day, mascara is one of them.  I don’t usually do much to make my eyes stand out so much of the time mascara is it.  This mascara has proven to be great for me, sliding on smoothly and not coming off easily, even on days when I’m on the hot soccer or lacrosse field watching the kids practice. I have experienced less clumping with this mascara than any I’ve tried.  That doesn’t mean that I haven’t had any issues with clumping though.  Given the nature of mascara I think clumping is naturally going to happen occasionally but not in such a severe way as with some other mascaras.

6. LAURA MERCIER Oil Free Suprême Foundation – $45 at Sephora

7. Benefit Cosmetics Eye Brightener – $20 at Sephora

8. BENEFIT COSMETICS Sugarbomb – $28

9. Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer – $36
This is on my face everyday.  That is one thing you can count on. I have some scarring from when I was a teenager and am self-conscious about it enough to wear a primer everyday.  No matter what.  This primer feels like silk and goes on smoothly to fill in fine lines and even out skin texture.

What's in my makeup drawer

As you can see, there are plenty more items (and even more than in the photo above) in my makeup drawer than just what I listed above.  More of my favorite makeup products are Kiehl’s Eye Alert, Olay Regenerist, Covergirl Olay powder, Bobbi Brown foundation stick, Sephora eye primer, and then to take it all off I use Neutrogena makeup remover wipes.

I’d love to hear from you!

What makeup products can you not live without using everyday?  What is your favorite foundation, concealer or lip balm?

My Visit to P&G Headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio (Lots of Photos!)

Note to readers: I was hosted by P&G (Proctor & Gamble) for this blogger conference.   Accommodations and travel expenses were paid for by P&G.  I am so appreciative that I was able to attend Access P&G and have recapped my visit to the P&G headquarters in Cincinnati for you below.

I was thrilled to be invited to attend P&G’s first Access P&G Blogger Conference this summer, in Cincinnati Ohio. I have used P&G products since I can remember and enjoyed learning more about the brand who brings consumers so many fabulous products from shampoo to mascara and dog food to Tampax. I left the conference feeling more knowledgeable about P&G, Cincinnati Ohio, and social media.

When I arrived at the airport I met a fabulous blogger named Alyson Labarge who writes on Mom Start, and enjoyed talking to her during the car ride to the hotel. That was a great start to the trip!

This post will take you through the Access P&G conference in the order things happened. If you want to jump to the conference sessions scroll down.

21C Museum Hotel & Cincinnati

Speaking of the hotel.. we were taken to the 21c Museum Hotel in Cincinnati where we would stay the next few nights. 21C Museum Hotel is a gorgeous contemporary art museum and boutique hotel. When I walked into the hotel I wondered for just a moment if I entered through a museum entrance. I know.. the name of the hotel is 21c Museum Hotel. I should have known. The lobby of the hotel consisted of one check-in desk and open beautiful space otherwise. The check-in desk neither cluttered with papers, computers, printers, or other gadgets, allowing for a simple, elegant guest check-in experience. That was perhaps the most enjoyable hotel check-in experience I’ve ever had.

21c Museum Hotel Cincinnati OhioI said hello to a few other bloggers who I recognized in the hotel lobby then headed up to my room. Entering my room was like entering a museum. Imagine that. The pristine decor, white bedding, and art on the walls and even the pillows gave me the peaceful retreat I needed before a night out with bloggers and P&G PR. Imagine my surprise when I walked into my bathroom and took a look at the shower only to see an ear protruding out of the tile as if it was there to catch up on the latest gossip. I made sure not to sing in that shower. 😉

Access P&G Blogger Conference - Cincinnati Ohio

But, lucky for me, a blogger from Canada named Jody, who’s blog is Mommy Moment, and I met up and took a walk to the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge where I was in awe of the design of the bridge as well as how much Cincinnati has embraced the importance of green space inside the city. Did you know that when the first pedestrians crossed the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge on December 1, 1866, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world at 1,057 feet? Imagine being one of those people in 1866, crossing the longest suspension bridge in the world!

Yoga, Lessons from Twitter, and How Strong is Bounty DuraTowel, Really?

The first morning, after a great yoga session, J.B. Kropp a Strategic Partnerships fellow at Twitter talked to us about Optimizing Your Blog through Social Media. I learned things like what days and times of day are best to tweet, how to effectively use hashtags, and he even presented some great Vine videos to us. I couldn’t have been more pleased with J.B.’s session at the Access P&G Conference.

Access P&G conference in Cincinnati, Ohio

After the great forum with J.B. Kropp we moved on to the P&G Headquarters just a few blocks from our hotel.

There, we kicked off our visit to the headquarters with a cooking demonstration and lunch with Bounty and Top Chef Stephanie Izard. Stephanie created a couple of beautiful dishes for us and a fabulous chocolatey goodness desert.  That ensured that we all had the energy we needed to continue with the day. Not like we needed any more energy. I think all the bloggers and I were so thrilled to be there, talking to each other and learning more about P&G that we didn’t need any more energy.

Before lunch we watched a demonstration during which two paper towels were secured by clamps hanging from a bar as seen in the photo above.  Each paper towel had a weight added to the bottom of it and was sprayed with water until the paper towel ripped and fell. We counted the seconds until the first paper towel ripped and fell from the rod.  Several of us held our breath because watching the DuraTowel paper towel hang from the rod with weighs on it while it was being sprayed continuosly with water, was one of those situations when you are nervous that things aren’t going to turn out as you hope, but the DuraTowel paper towel held strong and didn’t tear like the other paper towel did. Hooray! You can read my review of Bounty DuraTowel here.

P&G Archives

Perhaps my favorite part of Access P&G was our visit to the P&G Archives Room.   Walking into the archives room was like walking into a time machine dating back to 1837!  We were surrounded by some of P&G’s most well-known products including Vicks Vapor Rub, Tide, Downy, and Ivory and saw how the packaging has changed over the years.   To be honest, I like the old Ivory bar soap packaging better than the current.  We were given a wonderful overview of P&G’s history.  We were not allowed to photograph many of the products but some of those that we could photograph are shown below.

IAMS by P&GIAMS So Good!

We had a special guest around mid-day.  His name is Pawl Griffin and he is very hairy, slobbers, and practically convinced me that getting a dog might not be so bad.. one day.  Maybe 30 years from now.  Pawl Griffin, the face of IAMS, is a super sweet dog and very tolerant.  You wouldn’t believe how people coo over him.   The IAMS representatives that spoke with us were not only animal lovers, but know just about everything there is to know about a dog’s digestive system, hair coat, and breeds. I got a tip or two about what to look for if we ever decide to get a dog.

Hair and Makeup

The last stop of the day before dinner was to the hair and makeup ‘studio’ in the P&G headquarters.

Oh my goodness, talk about fun!  I have never been confident with applying eye liner and makeup in general.  That all changed, thanks to celebrity makeup artist and Olay Skincare Ambassador in attendance, Bruce Grayson.  I now know the correct way to apply eyeliner and foundation, even without using an official primer like I’ve done for years.  We used Olay Regenerist as a sort of primer then applied P&G’s Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation. Click the link to read my review of the foundation.

Next, we got a lesson in hair styling from the fabulous David Reposar, hair stylist extraordinaire.  One thing I learned from him is that it doesn’t take an hour to create an amazing hair style… little did I know.  He sat me down in a chair, sprayed a heat protecting spray on my hair then went at it with a curling iron.  How fun!

Balancing Blog and Home

This was the topic of our final conversation as a group, moderated by Danielle Smith, Access P&G attendee and author of Social Media Engagement For Dummies.  We shared stories about how we balance our blog/business and home life.. or don’t.  I shared a few of my secrets to balancing my business and home life.. shut the office door, don’t work at the kitchen table, give the kids the attention they need and deserve, and set boundaries.

Vanessa Lachey P&GOh, one last thing.  Vanessa Lachey.

The night of our arrival we enjoyed dinner at Contemporary Arts Center, next door to our hotel, where P&G “Have You Tried It  Yet” program spokesperson Vanessa Lachey spent the evening with us.  Vanessa is down to earth, nice, fun, funny, and of course.. gorgeous!  But what impressed me the most about her is that she spoke about her husband (Nick Lachey) and son just like you and I would talk about our husband and kids, with pride and humor.  She even suggested that she does her own laundry. Huh?   She sat down at our table and told us about her son and showed us photos.  It was adorable, really.

I hope you enjoyed this recap of my trip to Cincinnati Ohio for the first Access P&G blogger conference!
