Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Review: Repair & Finish Spray and Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse | @VidalSassoon

Do you remember the brown tubular Vidal Sassoon bottles that we had when we were kids?  Well, P&G Beauty & Grooming recently introduced the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series color, care and styling line.  Perfected by experts, the collections offer quality products for creating effortlessly beautiful, real life styles at home.  And in sleek, modern, red bottles this time!

There are five care and styling collections in the Pro Series line, and at-home color kits which were released earlier this year, make styling and maintaining hair a breeze.

This week I tried out Vidal Sassoon Repair & Finish Spray and Vidal Sassoon Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse. I was excited to try out both products but I really love the Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse from the Volume Collection. Special foam technology helps control unruly hair for a weightless, pumped up feeling and provides up to 24 hours of flexible hold. What’s really great about this product is that it is easy to comb out. It doesn’t make my hair feel like a plastic wig like some mousse does.

On Monday I went to the salon and had about 5 inches of hair cut off with the result being a layered bob.  It had been about a 8 months my last hair cut and I was ready for something different.  My style inspiration came from Michelle Williams’ cute longish-pixie cut at the Oscar’s but I didn’t want to go that short so my stylist gave me a chin length layered bob.

Before my stylist blow-dried my hair, I expressed my concern that because my hair is so thick, it would still be heavy and lay flat, even with my new layers. That’s when she lifted two sections of hair and I applied a mousse. Of course, the salon’s mousse is about $30 and I had just paid a lot to get my hair cut so I passed on their mousse and I’m glad I did because one day later I received the Vidal Sassoon products to try.

I don’t have a lot of confidence when it comes to styling my hair or applying makeup so I appreciate any product that makes it easier for me to do either. Before blow-drying my hair I lifted two horizontal areas of hair about 3 inches wide and applied the Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse. I thought that it might leave my hair difficult to brush while blow-drying but it didn’t. After blow-drying, my hair looked full instead of flat and drab. Mission accomplished!

VIDAL SASSOON PRO SERIES

The Repair & Finish Spray is applied to towel-dried hair and tames the fly aways of which I usually seem to have a lot of after about two hours after having dried my hair. My hair just doesn’t seem to want to stay in place. While I will probably never use as much hairspray as I did in the 80’s I don’t think it’s a bad thing to use if it will keep your hair under control. This product also keeps damaged hair from breaking. If it’s been a few months since you had a cut or you recently had your hair colored, this is a great product to try.

Both of the products smell refreshing and light and are $3.99 each for 5.07 oz.  You can find the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series collection in drugstores and mass retailers including Wal-Mart and Target.

Peter Pan: Disney Classics Book App for iPad and iPhone Now Available! | @DisneyDigiBooks @DisneyMobile

I have an iPad but my kids use it all the time. I’m sure that sounds familiar. I quickly realized that if my kids are going to take over my iPad, I can make sure that they are doing something educational on it.

I have math apps and reading apps for my 6-year-old daughter but little does she know that some apps like the Peter Pan: Disney Classics Book App I downloaded recently is educational, because it’s so fun!

Like most kids, my daughter has a short attention span so she gets bored with apps quickly. Not this one though. She jumps from the reading to and listening to the Peter Pan story, to coloring, to playing a memory matching game! Score for mom! Education and fun in one app!

Just like many books, this classic book app opens with a screen that says “This book belongs to ___”. My daughter loves to see her name and photo on the opening screen. She thinks that’s very cool.

Once she is in the app, she can choose to read or listen to the Peter Pan story, color pictures, play memory matching games, or do a puzzle.

She loves the puzzles. With levels from easy with 4 pieces to hard with 12 pieces she starts off easy then moves up to the highest level.

This year, Disney’s Peter Pan turns 60 years old. To celebrate, today Disney released an all-new “Diamond Edition” DVD/Blu-ray; however, fans can also experience the classic tale on mobile devices with the Peter Pan: Disney Classics book app. The iOS story takes readers to Neverland like never before. With read along activities, games and more, readers will join Peter Pan, Tinker Bell and the whole gang on a magical adventure whenever, wherever, and however they choose.

The Peter Pan interactive story features:

  • Reading modes for all ages
  • Coloring pages, interactive puzzles and memory matching games
  • Activities including a musical instrument activity similar to Peter’s

The Peter Pan: Disney Classics book app is available now for the iPhone and iPad on the App Store for $3.99.

I was provided with a code to download the app at no charge for review purposes. All opinions are my own.

New-Mom Style and Fashion Tips

For a lot of new moms, finding a balance between fashion and comfort can be difficult. New moms often find that their wardrobe consists of sweatpants and tees and many, like I did, wear maternity pants for months after having their baby because they are comfortable. This time in a new mom’s life is often called the fourth trimester!

It is very important however, for new moms to dress fashionably even if they are still over their ideal weight and can’t fit into their stylish pre-pregnancy clothes. Shopping at the closest department might not be the answer though. After having my second child and once I realized that I wasn’t going to fit into my size 6 pants again anytime soon, I went to a department store to buy an entirely new wardrobe. I ended up buying pieces that didn’t fit me. Why? I was tempted by the ‘regular’ size stuff in the store and thought surely I’ll lose the extra 15 pounds in a week or so. Needless to say, that wasn’t the case.

Plus size fashion from fashion world gives new moms who are a size 12-32 a lot of options allowing them to get out of the sweatpants and baggy tees. I’m all for wearing comfortable clothes but it’s very important for self esteem, to say the least, that we dress to impress even when at home with the kids. Wearing clothes with some style just makes people feel better, don’t you agree?

A couple of my favorite pieces from Fashion World, for example, are the Joe Browns Antique Vintage Dress (pictured above) and the Angel Ribbons Christie Rainbow Jumper. Pair the jumper (aka sweater) with your favorite pair of skinny jeans or leggings and ankle boots, for a cute and comfortable outfit that you will feel stylish and confident in!

Fashion tips for new moms:

  • Wear clothes that highlight areas of your body that you love.
  • Don’t be afraid to accessorize
  • Empire-waist dresses are a great option for new moms
  • Pairing a flowing top (not baggy) with leggings or skinny jeans will help you look thinner
  • A long necklace can also help make new moms look thinner

Are you a mom whose go-to outfit is sweatpants and a tee or are you a stylish mom who understands that you can have the best of both worlds.. style AND comfort?

What are your must-have ‘fourth trimester’ pieces?

Capturing Exceptional Photos of Special Life Moments with your Phone | #HTCOne #TroopOneX

I’ve been using the HTC One X+ Android phone for a few weeks.   As I mentioned in a previous post, I thought the transition from iOS to Android would be a bit painful as I have used an iPhone for 4 years.  I was mistaken.  You can read more about my transition from iOS to Android here.

I didn’t think that there could possibly be a phone or operating system that I’dlike better than iOS.  I quickly learned that I was wrong.  Within the first few days of having the HTC OneX+ I felt confident that I could make the switch from iOS to android and that’s just what I did.

The incredible 8MP camera on the HTC OneX+ helped make the decision to switch easy.

In just the few short weeks that I’ve been using the HTC One X+, I have captured some of my favorite photos of my daughter like the one below where she’s swinging with a tutu on.  My HTC one X+ has been with me to capture wonderful photos during some exciting moments of ours.  Check out some of my favorite photos from these experiences below.

Swinging in her tutu in 30 degree weather!

She lost another tooth!

Delicious desert!

All of the photos above were taken with this phone!

Those are just four of my favorite photos I’ve taken with the HTC OneX+.  I love love love the HTC OneX+ 8MP camera.  I used continuos shooting mode while my daughter was swinging and got the most amazing shots.  The italian ice photo above was taken using the Macro setting.  Look at the detail on the raspberries!

Anxious to learn more about the HTC OneX+ for AT&T?  I understand!!  Learn more about the HTC OneX+ here and follow @HTC on Twitter.

Are you a Tortoise or Hare When it Comes to Cleaning? I’m a..

My husband and I have been married for 13 years. I consider myself lucky that my husband ‘cleans’.  Notice I didn’t say ‘cleans the house’.  Here’s the thing.. he is OCD about some things like the way the curtains hang and the way the soup cans face.  But he’s not OCD about putting dirty dishes in the dishwasher.

I’m going to discuss the two types of cleaning styles that happen in my house: hare-cleaning and tortoise-cleaning.

Clashing Cleaning Styles

First, here are a couple of definitions:

Hare-Style Cleaning: The act of cleaning fast.. like a hare and most likely sweating while doing so.
Tortoise-Style Cleaning: The act of cleaning really slowly.. like a tortoise.

While it may take me an hour to clean the one floor of our house including vacuuming, dusting, cleaning counters, washing sheets, cleaning the microwave, sweep hardwoods, clean sticky handprints off of the kitchen cabinets, it takes my husband about 3 hours to ‘clean’ the kitchen.  I sweat when I clean.  I move so fast I hardly know what I’m doing.  I just want to get done and move on.   Don’t get me wrong.  I LOVE that he ‘cleans’ but sometimes I wish that he would speed-clean (aka hare-cleaning) like I do so that he could get MORE done in a day.

fast speed cleaning

The pro of hare-cleaning is that I get a lot done in a short period of time.

The cons are that I may not get the crumbs out from behind the toaster or clean out the junk drawer in the kitchen or organize the cabinets like my husband does.  I don’t consider the organizing to be absolutely necessary except for maybe once a month.  He thinks that organizing the drawers and cabinets is more important than cleaning because “if someone comes into our house, they may see clean floors and counters, but when they open a drawer and see clutter and chaos, they’ll think we’re slobs”.  Really?  So you’re telling me that if our neighbor comes over  to get a cup of sugar (it could happen) then you’d rather the cabinets be organized than the shoes in the hallway be put away or the floors be clean or the dirty dishes be put in the dishwasher?  Yes, that’s exactly what is being said.  But rather than get upset about it, I’m learning to let his cleaning style complement my cleaning style.  It’s all about expectations and I guess it took about 13 years for me to realize that my expectations when it comes to cleaning are different from my husband’s.

Deep breath.. I can work with it. I really can.

cleaning vs. organizing

Can the Tortoise & the Hare Cleaning Styles Compliment Each Other?

It’s more important to me that the house is guest-ready, than for the cabinets and drawers to be organized.  To each his/her own though.  Wait, that’s my point. I feel like the tortoise-cleaning style causes more harm than good.  When he is home and says he’ll clean, I almost (almost) dread it because I know I’ll be doing the real cleaning later or the next day.  Yes, the cabinets and drawers will be organized and will look amazing but the dishes may still be on the counter, the kid’s laundry might not be done, and there might be crumbs on the floor.

My hope is that our different cleaning styles will compliment each other.   Meanwhile, he needs to speed it up.. like a hare!  🙂

Again, I love that my husband is willing to ‘clean’ (aka organize) so don’t hate on me for complaining.   This isn’t even a topic that we really discuss because it’s not a big enough deal to actually spend time talking about.   Things could be so much worse, I know that.

On that note, do you clean first then organize or vice versa?
