Why Was Kate Gosselin Fired From Her Job as CouponCabin Blogger? Do You Even Care?

I’ll be honest, I haven’t kept up with Kase Gosselin since her first show on TLC and I don’t even remember what it was called.

All I remember the name of the post-divorce show, Kate Plus 8.

I used to enjoy the show, the first show, when she and Jon were married, whether they looked happy or not.  It seemed real.  It was like watching my life on TV, even though I only have two kids.  Then they divorced, their kids grew up, but it seemed that Kate didn’t.  I don’t know though. I’m not a psychologist, I’m just speaking from what I feel based on what I see.  Makes sense doesn’t it?  It just seems to make sense to me that if she really valued herself and her kids, she would have looked for a job that was not in the spotlight.  No dancing on TV, no news correspondent spots, none of that.  Just an office job.  When CouponCabin announced that Kate Gosselin would be their new blogger, I though that might not be a bad job for her.  Now, please keep in mind that these thoughts lasted all of 10 seconds because I’m really not invested in Kate’s doings.

Now, she’s out of this job.  What will she do?  I’m sure she can make money doing celebrity appearances, she can dance on TV, but really what’s best for her kids.  Her kids need to see that Mom is self-sufficient.  Why is Kate Gosselin being in front of the camera so different from any other celebrity mom though?  I can’t answer that.  Maybe it’s because she didn’t go into TLC having already been a celebrity mom.  Maybe it just seems fake and unwarranted for her to be considered a ‘celebrity’?  What’s your take on that?

I guess her stint as a CouponCabin blogger lasted a while but apparently ended because as CEO Scott Kluth said

“Ms. Gosselin is simply not a good fit with the wonderful team and culture at CouponCabin,”.

Scott went on to say

“Gosselin’s “contributions garnered both positive attention and criticism” during her 11 months working for the site. “We wish Kate, her family and her support staff all the best.”

So, was she ‘fired’ because CouponCabin didn’t like the negative attention, which I totally understand, or was she fired because she wasn’t doing her job?  I’d love to know. OR, did she quit?  Who knows?

  1. If you read even a couple of her blogs, the answer will be clear to you. She was fired for failure to do her job.

    * She never made an effort to promote CC. During interviews she focused talk on herself, not her employer and often had to be prompted.

    * Her blogs were VERY generic, with little actual advice. For example, on her last one she said how she saved money by hanging a picture herself isntead of calling a handyman, but she didn’t give any tips for those wanting to try it themselves. No tips, no links to useful DIY websites, nadda. Sadly, some of the advice was flat out bad, like opening a store credit card to get a discount, but ignoring the negative impact on your credit score and no warning to pay promptly in full due to high interest rates.

    * As the CC CEO stated, she was inauthentic. She wrote about having to pinch pennies, yet she has THREE vehicles, a pool, and travels regularly to New York for hair styling. Most readers cannot relate to that. They’re trying to figure out how to pay for a staycation and her advise was to buy a pool. Complete disconnect with the user base!

    1. Thank you for your comment Hope. I read some of her blog posts on Coupon Cabin but honestly, I assumed they knew what they were doing when they hired her and that she met their standards. I enjoy Coupon Cabin and have continued to use it but it seemed like a move that was made more to bring them attention than quality content.
It is very important to connect with your readers and I’m glad that they realized that maybe she wasn’t doing that. Hopefully she will find a job that will make her and her kids happy, in the very near future. They deserve that!

  2. I enjoyed Jon and Kate plus 8. I enjoyed the way that Kate took care of her children and her no njonsense attitude. She in my opinion was the realest person on all of the reality shows combined. She was not the so called hollywood image Mom which made her beleiveable and approchable. She was no nonsense which is not a good quality for a woman to have in the opinion of most men. She was far too smart for Jon, and people took it as being bossy. Why do people hate on Kate and are so opinionated about what job she gets? The woman has 8 children for goodness sakes, and unless you are prepared to offer her gainful employment, shut your piehole! She should be the CEO of a company, she has the experience and the heart. I wish all the best for Kate and her kids, and I hope she keeps a positive attitude, and don’t compromise her work ethics or her way of thinking.

    1. Thank you for your comment Marlena. I appreciate your insight. I don’t know how any mother with more than two kids does it, no less eight children! I do think she’s amazing for that. However, I just wish that she could find a job that would allow her more stability. But that is my wish and I don’t know anything about her life or her in general. Like I said at the end of my post, I’m indifferent. All I feel is hope that she is doing what’s best for her kids.
