Ford’s new vehicles take Green & Technology to new heights

I had an amazing time in Detroit for the North American International Auto Show . Albeit, the last 3 hours were a little nerve-wrecking with old man winter having dropped a huge amount of snow over Detroit and right onto the airport where I sat waiting to board my plane for 3 hours. But, all ended well.. I made it home safe and sound and now I’ve gathered my thoughts, photographs, and videos of my trip to NAIAS and am thrilled to share them with you.

I, along with 99 other bloggers from 14 countries, was invited by Clever Girls Collective and Ford to attend Ford’s press preview at NAIAS. We were given the opportunity to experience Ford’s newest vehicles including electronic vehicles, their new family-friendly C-MAX and the new Fusion lineup.

The first day, Ford unveiled a whole new fleet of eco friendly vehicles. We learned how Ford is helping to provide jobs in other countries, all while helping the environment.

Here I am sitting in the Ford Mustang Boss 302 sporting a hefty engine that will take you from 0-60mph in about 2 seconds. Not really, but you get it. My husband owns a Mustang and I must say that he was a bit jealous when I sent him this photo right after it was taken by Jim Owens with Ford. Thanks Jim!

The second day, we toured the Ford Rouge Factory. The Rouge Factory sits on 200 acres in Detroit, MI. Henry Ford purchased this land in 1915 and it was fully functional by 1920. It was used to make all Ford cars. At one point there was a staff of 100,000 working at the Rouge Factory.

Now, in 2011, the Rouge Factory is the building place for only Ford’s best selling vehicle, the F150. Sixty F150’s are assembled every hour here.
I was very impressed with the number of women working at Ford’s Rouge Factory right alongside these hefty manly-men. Great job ladies!

More about Ford’s vehicles and green initiative coming soon!

I was invited to participate in this program by Clever Girls Collective, Inc. in partnership with Ford and Ogilvy PR. Ford Motor Company paid for my travel and accommodations at the 2-day Driving Green Technology event, I was not compensated in any other manner for my time. My opinions posted here are my own.

January Nature Exchange Highlights at Chattahoochee Nature Center

It might be cold outside but now is the time to really show your trees how much you love them. Sure, we appreciate trees for what they give us in the spring, summer and fall- shade, fruits and nuts, that whispering sound when the wind blows. But we forget about the trees during this time of year and this is one of the best times to get to know them.

Chattahoochee Nature Center - Nature ExchangeGo outside and take a good look at the trees in your backyard or local park. Trees at this time of year can be very dramatic. Focus on how the bark looks and feels on different trees. Look up and notice how the branches are silhouetted against the sky. If you’re feeling creative, get out a camera and photograph tree silhouettes at different times of the day or from different angles.

Trees can also be silly and fun. Get creative and play a game with your tree!  Trees make great partners in hide and seek and are the perfect base in tag. You can dress up your tree with a little creativity. Make eyes, nose and a mouth out of paper and give your tree a face – add a scarf for a little whimsy!  Or build a fairy house at the base of your tree to invite some company over for your new friend.

In January, the Chattahoochee Nature Center is celebrating trees in the Nature Exchange. Throughout the month, you can “adopt” a tree that lives at CNC. There are fun learning games and activities all about trees in the Nature Exchange throughout January. And, if you trade in a tree item, you will receive 50 bonus points!

Get to know your trees and we look forward to seeing you at the Chattahoochee Nature Center.

NAIAS Here I Come!

I am thrilled to be attending The North American International Auto Show in Detroit, this Sunday through Tuesday, compliments of Ford Motor Company. I am going to have a first look behind the curtains at the Auto Show and I will also be getting a behind the scenes look at Ford Motors Headquarters in Dearborn, MI. How cool is that?

Stay tuned to be the first to read about and see (photographs) my experiences in Detroit, at the The North American International Auto Show, and for what I learn about Ford’s green initiative..which I am very excited about.

If you have questions that you would like for me to ask Ford executives, leave them in the comments below.

I will put a list of other bloggers who are attending the The North American International Auto Show here later today or Monday morning.
